Dear Mr. President by ~MasqueradeMe:iconMasqueradeMe:

Dear Mr. President
Can you please explain to me,
How this nation has come to
Be?

How can it be in 2009
We still have segregation
When this Nation is supposed to
Welcome all who have come to see

How can it be,
People still get judged by their past
Or even the colour of their skin
Mr. President can you explain to me?

How has it come to be
We live in constant fear,
Of a constant sight unseen
Of imaginary things indeed

Pharmaceutical companies
Seem to be making,
Medications for things that really can’t be
And they say everyone around me has ADHD

Do they realize that now the people that truly
Suffer, are questioned beyond belief
It seems to be they are concerned
Only about the amount of profit one can keep

The amount of addiction sky-high
Because of the pills that can make one high
Some have similar effects of heroin
And some can make you seem crazy

Since when does a pill cure instability?
And since when is it ok for a women who murdered her children,
To be set free
Because of temporary insanity

Can you also explain to me,
How our justice system is fucked up
Beyond comprehensible belief
Jail systems house those who should be free
While criminals are set free on bullshit technicalities
Please Mr. President, explain to me

Why does our government fear its own citizens
Who only want to know the truth
A lot of things seem to be conspiracies
An illusion to create mass hysteria and a promise to protect

Mr. President how has it come to be
This Nation is only together during crisis
And times of disparity
Has the Nation forgotten the principles that led us to be free?

Ms. Emma Lazarus says to us…
“Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free”
Has the Nation forgotten what these words are meant to mean?

We turn our back to those who are in need
While placing ourselves in countries we needn’t be
Homeless citizens who aren’t helped
Then laughed at whilst sleeping on the streets

Mr. President explain to me
How can it be so easy,
Living with the knowledge
You set people up to fail

We teach young kids that stealing is wrong,
But then offer no help when our children are struggling to eat
Then send that food off to others,
When we can’t always prove they are in dire need

Mr. President, what gives the right to 12 jury members
To say someone’s fate
Who’s to say, that it’s not personal
Or they’re just having a bad day

Explain to me, how it has come to be
We now judge who can love
And what gender love has to be
I thought this was the Nation of the free

Speaking of freedom,
Since when can someone hold my own words against me
Whatever happened to our freedom of speech?
When the freedom of speech should be more than just words on the street

Who’s to say a cry for help, an unspoken secret
Bodily bruised and emotionally beat
Mentally unstable
Critically enabled

Explain to me,
Why a family of four has enough room in a house to add almost 10 more
Then turn that around and explain to me,
Why do the rich always seem to get away with murder because of greed?

So easily can people turn around to say,
The seven deadly sins
That surrounds them everyday
They can so easily define them, and show them proudly off

Since when is manners a thing of the past,
And chivalry damned to those who open their hearts
Where are the seven virtues
That used to be so heavenly taught?

Mr. President explain to me,
What has this so called great Nation,
Truly turned around to be
Mr. President, will you be there when your great Nation is on its knees?
